Admission to emergency

Welcome to DMV

As soon as you sign the Authorization of Procedures form, your pet will be assigned a well-identified cage in which it will stay for the duration of its hospitalization.

Personal effects
Other than its collar, please do not leave any personal belongings with your pet. All objects in cages are washed daily; therefore there is a risk of losing or damaging anything you’ve left. The DMV Centre provides covers, toys and leashes. We will make sure that your pet is comfortable at all times.

Medication
If your pet requires medication or special food, please bring it to our attention and provide us with the needed quantities. If the required special food is available at the Centre, we will provide it.

Procedures
After the admission, we will proceed as soon as possible with the required procedures (laboratory, radiographies, IV fluid setup, surgery, etc.). There could be a wait for certain procedures since we often have more than thirty hospitalized animals. At the DMV Centre animals are seen in order of priority. Therefore, if your pet is in critical condition, it will benefit from quicker treatment. On the other hand, if your pet is stable, it may have to yield its place to animals in more serious condition.

File sheet
Once your pet is admitted, the veterinarian will advise an animal health technician as to which parameters are to be overseen. The technician will then carry out the appropriate treatments and tests that your pet requires. Test results and other information will be recorded on a treatment file sheet identified with your pet's name. Our certified technicians are devoted to your pet’s care and comfort and will stay close by your pet during its stay. Each of our technicians is a very important link between the patient and the veterinarian.

Daily follow-up
Every hospitalized animal is examined at least once a day by a veterinarian. These examinations help the veterinarian to evaluate the progression of the animal's initial problem, as well as to monitor changes that could have occurred during its hospitalization. To ensure continuity of the treatment plan, every case is presented for discussion three times a day at the veterinarians’ shift changes.
